Oldleither Messages of Condolences for "Oor Jessie"

It is with deep sorrow that I have to tell you that  Malcolm informed me that his wife, Jessie Newlands nee Berry passed away peacefuly in hospital in Revelstoke, British Columbia yesterday, 11th January, 2010.

Jessie was a regular contributor to the site almost since day one.

Her wit matched her ability to`tick` us off when warranted.  Who could complain? We must have deserved it.  None more so than Alex `Wee Eckie` Wallace.

We shall certainly miss her.

My heartfelt condolences go out at this time to husband Malcolm, daughter Jane and son Callum as well as her two grandchildren.  God be with them.

John Stewart, Webmaster

I was sad to hear about Jessie. I had an e-mail from her a couple of years ago about places I remembered. It was kind of her. When someone has been so special there are so many happy memories that in time there will be more smiles than tears when her name is mentioned. Time will dull the pain but it will always be there. One day at a time.

I was privileged to have contact with Jessie and our connection was Box 3 in Mill Lane. Both of us had been policewomen (I know - now not very politically correct - but that is what we were) albeit decades apart but the conection remained. I know her experiences kept her close to Leith and the 'polis' and our emails were rich with memories. I will lay a flower at the box tomorrow. Thoughts with the family.

Jessie I miss you so much. It was the brightest spot in my morning to open up my E mail and see all the jokes and beautiful pictures you would send me every day for the past few years. Now I go days without looking at the computer..... To Malcolm I would like to say, Jessie was a treasure and we will all miss her... my condolences are sent to you and the children may you have happy memories of times gone by to remember her by.
