Well folks we have finally reached the quarter of a million visit mark at 3.15 GMT on the 21st December, 2011.
As Sir Harry advised, we have kept right on and still going on.
No small achievement for a little homely website dedicated to the town we hold dear.
It is now ten and a half years since we began and in this time many Leithers and ex Leithers
have made their mark. It saddens me somewhat that so many have faded into the back ground.
I would just love to hear from you. So come on then and let me know if you are still alive and kicking. lol.
Lets get a note from you to put on here expressing what the site has meant to you.
Finally thank you all for contributing in reaching this milestone. You have all played your part.
Ruth McClounnan, Los Angeles, USA,

It is very pleasing to see the site hit the magic 1/4million mark. May I first of all thank, not only John but, OLIVE...She would be so pleased to see what John has achieved since her passing...So many Leithers have joined the site since it's inception.
May I also thank, ALEX ( ecky ). He is an original contributor to this site..WITHOUT these kind hearted and pleasant people this site would have failed to get this far..Some of us have found the site at a later stage and, The rest is history, as they say. Looking forward to the next milestone.
John, I think that I speak for a great many here, It has been a real pleasure knowing you and, at times, working with you..Next time you have a word with Olive, can you please say a big THANK YOU FROM ALL OLD LEITHERS, WHEREVER THEY LIVE..

What I do miss is, my private emails from oor Jessie, she was witty and funny, so here is to another 250,000 + hits, it is up to the Old Leithers to keep this site going, so anybody popping in to read these comments, put a wee bit on about yourselves, a BIG THANK YOU to ALL who contribute to this site. PS, I was wondering if Alec is our longest serving member on site Bob. 22-12-2011

First of all congrats; on making the 1/4 million mark, it must be a great thrill for you to look back and think of all the old Leithers that have surfed into your web site from the many corners of the world and got so many memories of their days in the port. I have sent you a little ode to honour the occasion. Here's to the next quarter of a million but if it takes another 10 years to make it I doubt very much if I will be around for the celebration. So I will drink a toast to this mark while I can still raise the glass.
Oldleither’s’ ¼ Million and Counting.
It’s over 10 years now on line, since Oldleither was unfurled,
All the names etched in our guest book from all corners of this world.
It would be nice to give the names,of the folks who have all signed,
But if I tried to do this, I’d go right out of my mind.
So instead I’ll give a ratio, of where they are by zone,
And I hope this helps to indicate where old Leither’s now call home.
‘Bonnie Scotland’, stands in first place, with old England next in line,
Canada sits in third place, with the Aussies fourth in prime.
The U.S.A. comes next in fifth, with New Zealand in sixth place,
The Taffies are in 7th with Spain and South Africa tied for eighth.
And bringing up the rear, folks, each one almost in a tie,
Is Belgium, France and Ireland, all bunched up there in five.
To cap this little diagram, by John who is the sender
I’ll finish off by giving you. just how they rate by Gender,
From over a quarter million signing in, sixty one percent are Male.
And at last we see the girls ‘behind! only 39 percent are Female!

John; a great big congratulations to you and all who have contributed to making the site such a huge success!!
I am so happy to have found the site and been lucky to meet so many super friendly Leithers in person.Graham you and Bob were the first two I met earlier this year at Ocean Terminal before going onto the Reunion believe me it was like I had always known you both that is the true Leithers way... John it was a privilege to meet you and also an honour to meet your Mother May.
The site for me as I am sure for all of us that live in other lands brings us closer to our memories of days gone by with folks that can relate to our memories and stories. Roll on the next 250,000 you brighten my day all of you with the chatter and bantering keep going and thank you John and everyone for making it possible..

The holidays are upon us and it can be a very joyful time of year. Some of us have problems during the holidays and sometimes are overcome with great sadness when we remember the loved ones who are not with us. And, many people have no one to spend these times with and are besieged by loneliness. We all need caring thoughts and loving prayer right now. If I don't see your name, I'll understand. May I ask my friends wherever you might be, to kindly copy, paste, and share this status for one hour to give a moment of support to all those who have family problems, health struggles, job issues, worries of any kind and just need to know that someone cares. Do it for all of us, for nobody is immune. I hope to see this on the walls of all my friends just for moral support. I know some will!! I did it for a friend and you can too.
