Our Moment of Fame
"In the future everyone will be famous for five minutes"
Andy Warhol
Surely we have all had a period in our lives when we could say that was our moment of fame.
Did you meet someone famous? Did you have an achievement that you were congratulated upon?
Were you present at some auspicious occasion? Has your name or photo ever appeared in the newspapers or media in a complimentary fashion? Have you ever won a competition?
If so then why not let us all know about it.? Doesn`t have to be a photograph
For myself it was the time in 1996 when I appeared on the Channel 4 quiz programme `Fifteen to One`.
I have always taken an interest in General Knowledge quizes, and for the last seven years I have compiled and run one in the Livingston Rugby Football clubhouse. I then thought about putting myself to the test. Channel 4 had auditions in Edinburgh for would be competitors and I presented myself on the day. Some weeks later I was asked to appear at their studios in Wandsworth, London to take part in a recording.
The format was fifteen people to challenge each other to answer questions put forward by the presenter. The answer had to be given within ten seconds. Each participant had three lives. The winner was the last person standing.
Much to my surprise and delight, I came out on top that day. I hasten to add that no prizes were at stake. You just had the self gratification of achievement, and the prospect of seeing yourself on TV at a later date when the programme was transmitted.
I was later told by friends that I also appeared `in cameo` on `The Bill` , a long running series of a fictitious Metropolitan Police Station cases. Seemingly an investigation involving jail prisoners being interviewed in their recreation hall with some sitting around a television set. Just so happened an episode of `Fifteen to One` was showing, an lo and behold I appeared on it. L.O.L.
