Up to the Minute News from the Webmaster

Wednesdaay 2 April

The idea of taking part in the Leith Festival has been rejected.  It was not practical.
The Association is also abandoned as a constitutional body.  Instead we are as before, a loose association of interested parties to the site.  The monies collected will be re-imbursed on request.  I will take no offence if this is done.  As the site is not up for renewal until July 2009, maybe then we can look at sharing some of the expense.

Seeking quotes for leaflets to circulate at Leith Festival in June.

Today I have decided to erase the new guestbook.  Therefore I hope to get back to where we were with the original.

Made enquiries regarding opening a Bank Account in the Association`s name.  Have an appointment with the Bank on Monday, 11th February.

Two more members admitted to the Association this morning.

Leith Festival in June   I have been in touch with Steve Mitchell regarding the possibility of us taking part in it.  As an Association I think we should be able to put something out.  Do you agree and what form could it be?  I would obviously be seeking help from those of you in close proximity.

Was sought permission by the Minister of St Thomas` - Junction Road Church to include a piece of  `Leith Memories` in a sermon.  He thought that Oldleither would receive some publicity from it.  I duly consented.

Alex Wallace (Meaford, Ont. Canada) has accepted nomination for Presidency of the Association.  Proposed by John Stewart (Livingston, Scotland) and seconded by Graham Whyte (Harrogate, England).

As no further nominations have reached me, and in accordance wih the rules,  I will therefore go ahead and invite Alex Wallace to assume this position.

Alex Wallace has accepted the Presidency.  His acceptance and words have been posted on site with links from both sites to it.

Tuesday 29 Jan 2008

Two names have been forwarded for the Presidency to date; Alex Sandie of Ca., and Alex Wallace of Ontario. Will have to check with them if they wish to be considered.

Sue-Ellen Welfonder today graciously and enthusiastically accepted the offer of Patroness.  We await her formal acceptance in a few weeks` time.  Meantime she has been given access to the complete site.

Alex Sandie has turned down nomination in an e-mail to me today informing me of it.

Bob Abbot and Ian Ross have agreed to act as Financial AuditorsIan is from Edinburgh and Bob is from Peebles.

I will keep them up-to-date with all aspects of the finances as they occur.  The site will also be updated accordingly.

With the donations now taking us into the `black`, I intend to open an account in the Association name.  I assume it will require two signatures for any withdrawals.  Ian, being only 30 minutes away would seem to be the obvious choice as the co-signee along with me.

I think we should now appoint a President to act as an advisory and an onlooker over our shoulders.  He/she will in the main be a figurehead.

Do you agree and how do we go about selecting him or her?.

I do have a name in mind.  This person has been an Oldleither since almost day one.  Alex  Wallace from Ontario.  Please, however, let me know of anybody  you may have in mind.  You can let me know by e-mail.

Finally, I have followed some of your advice in inviting Sue-Ellen Welfonder to be a Patroness of the site with full access to it at no cost to her. I think her patronage can do us no harm.  As I said before, she lists our site amongst her links as a favourite
